Live Smooth Streaming infrastructure and advertising for the 2010 Olympics
Microsoft and its partners provided an infrastructure that helped to provide NBC, the Canadian television company (CTV), and the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) with streaming content of the 2010 Winter Olympics. A new article titled NBC Online Video Monetization and Highlights Creation for the 2010 Winter Olympics describes the general IT architecture and tools used to support these three broadcasters, and offers specific details about how NBC inserted midstream ads in both the live video and video-on-demand (VOD) scenarios and created and delivered highlight clips.

2010 French Open powered by IIS Live Smooth Streaming and Silverlight
Frances Télévisions and Eurosport have selected Silverlight and IIS Live Smooth Streaming to deliver online webcasting of the 2010 French Open at Roland Garros. This event, which runs through June 6, 2010, follows up on previous IIS Live Smooth Streaming successes that both Frances Télévisions and Eurosport have had with similar high-visibility events over the last year.

Smooth Streaming and Live Smooth Streaming, both part of IIS Media Services 3.0, have been generating a lot of interest from content owners who want to provide a seamless viewing experience up to 1080p for their end users. Even in the Beta stage of Live Smooth Streaming, there have been dozens of live trials at high-visibility events, such as the French Open and the FIFA Confederations Cup.
