SQL Server, as a database product, has grown over the years and there are multiple ways to connect to it. Often, the different ways to connect to the database get documented and discussed in the various technology sections, and the technology choice determines which connectivity method one is going to use. For example, if one is writing a C++ application then one has to go with ODBC whereas a PHP web site developer will choose the PHP driver of course.

SQL Server Driver for PHP 2.0 CTP adds PHP's PDO style data access for SQL Server
Today at DrupalCon SF 2010, we are reaching an important milestone by releasing a Community Technology Preview (CTP) of the new SQL Server Driver for PHP 2.0, which includes support for PHP Data Objects (PDO). Alongside our efforts, the Commerce Guys, a company providing ecommerce solutions with Drupal, is also presenting a beta version of Drupal 7 running on SQL Server using this new PDO Application Programming Interfaces (API) in the SQL Server Driver for PHP 2.0.

SQL Server Driver for PHP 1.1 Community Technology Preview is now available
Today we are excited to announce that the Community Technology Preview (CTP) of the Microsoft® SQL Server Driver for PHP 1.1. This version of the driver provides new capabilities for building PHP applications and support for SQL Azure as well as support for PHP version 5.3, enabling developers to build PHP applications with relational capabilities using SQL Azure Database.
