The primary reason for obfuscation is to avoid fragmentation of the client platform. We have noticed in the past that some players have decompiled the un-obfuscated binary & made modifications which led to incompatibility of the content & created unnecessary support issues. This helps us prevent fragmentation of the ecosystem and allows us to keep up the rapid pace of innovation.

Peter, the problem you are seeing might be addressed by this thread - forums.iis.net/.../1920761.aspx. Please feel free to add more on the thread if it is still not resolved.

Source Implementation: At this point we are planning on making this availble in binary form only.

Documentation: We are working on samples and more documentation. I would be blogging samples that cover features areas.

One short note, while reading it I noticed that you wrote, "RSS 2.0 is a frozen specification copyrighted by Harvard" which I do not think is an accurate description.

The specification is licensed under Creative Commons 1.0 BY-SA by Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School. The full description of the license and attribution requirements can be found at: cyber.law.harvard.edu/.../rss.html

It has been 200 days since you wrote this article, so things may have changed since initial publication. I think it is worth updating the article to reflect this change since the current state of the RSS 2.0 specification is now much more open.

What is happening in this case is that your server(IIS) in case requests the aspx page which returns the value ad.wmv. Here is the complete flow - on IIS create a web Playlist and add an entry for relative path and set location to the aspx page. This is because the aspx page returns a relative path - ad.wmv (if you return a complete physical path set the location type accordingly). You should have ad.wmv in the same path on the IIS serveras the playlist.

The purpose of Web Playlists is that for your site you can embed a player and point it to a playlist on the server. The server-side approach is interesting only if you want to restrict users from skipping, etc and also in cases you dont want to give our your URLs to consumers. In either case I would recommend this solution for you

Do you still need help? What would you like to do with the aspx page? If you create a page a.aspx and copy the below text in it and refer the playlist to that page, it would work

Hi, again

In my http://200.157.23.252/ a have a file "RSMplaylist1.isx".

Please, I would like to know how to make a simple aspx page to play it.

Another thing: my wmp11 can't open url above and play isx file. Do I need to configure something else (I already fixed the firewall)?
