We deployed Windows 10 on our public cloud – and it was pretty fast!

If you’ve been living under a rock during the last few weeks, you probably haven’t heard about Microsoft’s newest version of its Windows OS. The tech giant has recently made Windows 10 available as a technical preview.

This means anyone can install a version of the OS on their personal computer and give it a test drive. Although this isn’t a final version of the operating system, it includes some of the big new features that will be available in the next version. Strangely enough, those features are mostly a return to the old format! (Would you look at that? The Start menu is back!)

Windows 10 in the Cloud

If you follow our blogs closely, you probably know all about our Performance Cloud Servers. We’ve talked a lot about the performance level of our infrastructure and how organizations could benefit from enterprise-grade hardware for a fraction of the cost.

We decided to test the latest Microsoft OS with our Performance Cloud. How long would it take to deploy a virtual machine running Windows 10?

Windows 10 in Performance Cloud

About as long as it takes to listen to I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister or ABC by The Jackson 5. And yes, this is what we think you should do while the VM is being deployed.

In about 3 minutes, I was able to browse through the new OS on a virtual machine deployed on Performance Cloud. That’s pretty fast, and it gives you an idea just how fast our infrastructure is.
